Summary

APA102 LEDs controlled by Teensy 3.1. Variable brightness, delay, and intermission (time between effects) controlled via an android app constructed with MIT App Inventor 2 via blue tooth and an HC-05 Module. Uses the incredible FastLED library.

Bear with me, I'll be adding supporting documentation as I am able, I just figured I would get this out with apologies...

Parts list:

Teensy 3.1
HC-05 Wireless Bluetooth Transceiver Module
1M 144LED/M APA102 Led Strip
Polycarbonate Tubing, 1/2" ID x 5/8" OD x 1/16" Wall, Clear Color
"Lipstick-sized" External battery Power Bank 3.5 x 0.9 x 0.9 inches
Zip ties or 3.5" 1/4" bolts and nuts for main assembly

Software:

The Arduino program is attached as "Led_POV_POI.ino".
The App Inventor 2 program is attached as "Led_POV_POI.aia" and can be compiled or modified at http://ai2.appinventor.mit.edu
"BitMapConverter.zip" is a .Net application used to create byte arrays from bmp files. I am sure there are more efficient ways to deal with images, but this worked fine for the limited scope of my particular project.

Assembly:
As far as the 3D printed pieces, you can see how most of it goes together based upon the pictures. You have a choice of printing out a 1 piece or two piece main body, the advantage of the 2 piece body being that it is more sturdy.

The "equilateral_10mm_led_mounting_surface" piece provides a base for mounting the LED strips (mine had 3m tape on the back). I printed out 3 and, after soldering 3 lengths of LEDs together, I stuck them to the pieces. this assembly slips right into the polycarbonate tubing.

Wiring for LEDS:
pin 5 from Teensy to DI (Data in) on LED Strip
pin 6 from Teensy to CI (Clock in) on LED Strip
VUSB from Teensy to 5V connector on LED Strip
GND from teensy to GND on LED Strip
Use pads on opposite side of microUSB to solder in power

Daisy chain GND to GND, CO to CI, DO to DI, and 5v to 5v for the remaining 2 strips.

Wiring for HC5:
Pin 10 from Teensy to RXD on HC-05
Pin 9 from Teensy to TXD on HC-05
3V from Teensy to VCC on HC-05
G (between to p and v) from Teensy to GND on HC-05
