Summary

I am an 009 modeller and wanted a tank engine using a more realistic chassis than the Kato 11-109 which invariably results in a tram engine design. This is the outcome.

Post-Printing

Removal of supports

            <div><p>If you are careful the support should all come out in one piece once it has been released from the footplate of the loco.  The roof is printed as a separate item to avoid having support that would be near impossible to remove and to allow access to paint the cab interior.</p><p>I printed the roof flat after having a failure when printing it up on its end so take great care removing the support structure here.  A sharp modelling knife with a chisel type blade worked best for me but keep fingers out of the way.</p></div>

How I Designed This

A freelance 009 tank engine

            <div><p>I wanted to make a loco to fit the Kato 57-201 small England chassis from Peco/Kato. As this has a more realistic steam engine look to it.  I already had a saddle tank in my collection on the Kato 11-109 chassis, so this was an opportunity to make something different, and as I have not seen any other models on Thingiverse using this chassis I thought it would present a challenge all of its own.</p><p>Inspiration came from a number of sources <a rel="nofollow" href="/DoubleM_Models">https://www.thingiverse.com/DoubleM_Models</a> being one of them along with some research of my own. </p><p>With this design the chassis should simply slip into the body and the two ridges each side of the chassis should engage with the grooves on the tank side to hold it in place.</p><p>I will leave couplings up to the individual builders as there are plenty out there to choose from.</p></div>
