Summary

For the middle school student council elections, I had nothing to hand out. Then I thought, "What 𝘥𝘰 I have?"

Fortunately for me, my brother-in-law lent me this 3D printer a couple of years ago to use. It was a novel piece of art that I was able to create, and in fact, it was good enough that it actually helped me win!

Now, anybody can print these themselves.

How I Designed This

Firstly, I opened Tinker-cad. I began with a cylinder, and flattened it into a coin. Then, I applied text to the top. Since my last name's bird, I was able to take a spin on the Surfin' Bird song commonly associated with Family Guy, the animated sitcom. After that, I doodled a bird with the doodle tool to grant an appeal, and plastered my full name onto the back (as a hole).

I tweaked the model to work with 0.3mm mode, and aligned the doodle with the text. Please be aware that choosing anything other than 0.3mm mode will make it difficult to read the text on the back, but it will still be printable. All the coins I passed out were printed with 0.2mm mode, that is what made them difficult to read. I learned this after I was voted in, so I didn't tweak it in time until now.

I have not tried a layer height higher than 0.3mm, if you do so, please notify me of the results.
