Flying Aircraft Stand Modular 1/72
In the past decades, the included "flying stands" which used to be included with nearly all 1/72 scale model aircraft kits disappeared from the boxes.
So! I decided to make mine. The design isn't new or original but follows the usual "curved cone" which I knew. What made this deign a little special is its modularity. The base and post are common but the top inserts present various degrees of bank and pitch to bring some variety to the display. The pitch can be 0/+10/-10 and the roll 0/R10/L10. I have also included a 20-roll but with zero pitch to make sure the models will be stable.
My printers are tightly tuned relative to dimensional accuracy so make sure yours also is as the fits are pretty exact. The hole at the bottom of the base is to allow to push the post straight out without breaking it (don't ask how I learned that...).
I advise to print the Top Inserts with a high resolution (I used 0.1 layer).
The post doesn't need support due to its low curvature but a small raft to increase plate adhesion is a very good idea. The top inserts need support around the rectangular plug.
The top pin is 3mm in diameter which was the standard Airfix holes.
Have fun!
Update 05/29/2024: I just added some Top Inserts. There's now inserts with 0-10-20 pitch (U10, U)0) and variations with 0-10-20-30 bank (L10, R20, etc.).
The formats are 3MF and STL (binary).
p.s.: the older, non-modular version can be found at https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:6631021 is you want to avoid the tight tolerances of the Top Inserts.
