5:1 Fine Focus Knob for Telescopes (Orion XT6)

This uses a 5:1 planetary gear system to allow for fine movements while focusing your telescope. The connector is specifically designed to fit around my orion xt6 focus knob, which is 3.6cm in diameter, so it could work with other focus knobs if they are around that diameter.

You NEED to print 4 planet gears.
You will likely need to use simple supports on the connector piece.

To assemble it, put the short end of the ring gear flat against the side of the connector piece with the holders. Then, slot all 4 planet gears into the holders of the connector piece. Finally, slot the sun gear in, you might have to use some force and rotation to get it to fit.

To use it, fit/glue the connector piece onto your existing focus knob, and hold the ring (center) gear stationary while rotating the outer knob (sun gear).

Specifics:
This uses a 32 tooth ring gear which should be held stationary, 4 12 tooth planet gears that rotate to move the connector (carrier), and an 8 tooth sun gear that is connected to the handle. This gives exactly a 5:1 ratio when using the sun as an input, the planet carrier as an output, and the ring being fixed.
The holes in the planet gears are .5cm in diameter, which slot into the .45cm diameter holders of the connector piece. The entire knob is 4.5cm long, and 4.4cm wide. The grips are .1cm tall, and each have a width of .15cm, with .075cm between the next grip part. (of which there are 40 evenly spaced)
The connector has a 3.65cm to accommodate the 3.6cm wide focus knob on the xt6.

Update 7/28/24: I've made the ring and sun gear a bit longer, as I found they were hard to hold. Total length is now 4.5cm, up from 3.8cm previously. The assembly files were also removed, as I can't be bothered to continue updating them.
