Found a lot of spool holders, didn't find many that were well designed aside from this one. I made a few tweaks:

I added a filament tube holder boss at the top so the tube is actually held in place. I also got rid of the little boss that wraps around the front of the printer, no need for it, just wastes support material and takes longer to print.

One thing that needs to be done: the top hole should have been counterbored like the bottom one.

Edit 2/14/15: RevC. got several spools all different sizes and decided to improve this again. I have 2lb spools and the original really wasn't strong enough.
-I beefed up the rib,
-made it to fit 3.75" width spools
-removed the little nub that retains the spool created a retainer clip that slides up against any width spool with spring tension.
