Mouth Stick Stylus
I designed this mouthstick for my quadriplegic friend when hers wore out and the source that she was getting them from disappeared.
There are 3 purchased parts:
- carbon fiber tube 4mm inside diameter, 6 mm outside diameter. Cut to preferred length https://a.co/d/dVL762c
- M4x6x6mm female threaded insert
- Stylus Tip, available in gold or silver color https://www.pennstateind.com/store/PKTSTXCHBK.html
There are 2 printed parts:
- Mouthpiece, may work fine for you with PETG or PLA, I printed using Polymaker tough PC for maximum rigidity. I designed it to be printed flat with no supports, then heated with boiling water and manipulated to form the angle.
- Stylus adapter, Must be printed using conductive filament such as: https://a.co/d/afSfhlx in order to maintain the conductive path for the stylus tip to work on capacitive touch screens (like IPhone). Before trying the conductive filament, I also had success with a version of this part using PETG but I had to design a small passage and install a wire to conduct charge from the carbon tube to the stylus tip. Printed insert end down with supports. You must heat the insert with a soldering iron to sink it in the hole.
Have gone back and forth with testing and design improvements, and it is working pretty well now. Thinking of trying a version with adjustable length, or one with attachments for other items. Would love to have someone try this out and offer feedback or improvement ideas! thanks!
