Harbor Freight Modular Toolbox Trays

Tray System for Harbor Freight Modular Rolling Toolbox

This set of trays is designed specifically for the Harbor Freight Modular Rolling Toolbox. They are practical for various uses, from organizing tools to holding and transporting games like Heroscape.

Key Features

  • Custom Fit: Each tray has notches that align with the toolbox's channels, preventing movement during transport.
  • Durable Construction: These trays are thick and rugged, suitable for tools or gaming components.
  • Tapered Toolbox Design: The toolbox is slightly wider at the top than at the bottom. This tapering means most trays fit only in specific vertical positions, which are marked with numbers for proper stacking.
  • Smooth Operation: The trays slide in and out with some tolerance but may feel tight if the toolbox isn’t on a level surface. However, they are never too tight to remove.

Tray Placement and STL Notes

  1. Tray Configuration:

    • All provided STL files are designed for the right-hand side of the toolbox.
    • Each tray is split into a front and back piece.
    • To use on the left-hand side, mirror the tray side-to-side in your slicer software. Do not mirror front-to-back, as two trays won’t fit correctly in that orientation.
  2. Trays 1, 2, and 3 (Lower Levels):

    • These trays are narrower and leave a center gap if printed for both sides of the toolbox.
    • Currently, there is no version to fill the entire toolbox width. If you’d like such a design, leave a comment to express interest for future updates.
  3. Trays 4 and 5 (Top Levels):
    • Numbered Trays: Match the lower trays in width and stack with the same center gap.
    • Tray Top Narrow: Similar to numbered trays but without embossed numbers.
    • Tray Top Mid: Overhangs slightly over the lower trays. These work perfectly with “tray top wide” trays when placed at the same level on the opposite side of the toolbox.
    • Tray Top Wide: Overhangs more than “tray top mid” trays. Use them in conjunction with "tray top mid" trays for a full-width configuration.
    • Tray Top Extra-Wide Short: Extra-wide but shallow trays for small parts. Three of these (60mm) stack slightly higher than one "tray top narrow" tray (56mm). These do not fit with “tray top mid” or “tray top wide” trays.

Additional Notes

  • Customization Options: If you need trays to fully fill the toolbox or have other specific requirements, leave a comment, and I’ll consider designing based on demand.
  • Assembly Tips: Ensure trays are positioned in their correct vertical order as indicated by the numbers to accommodate the toolbox’s tapered shape.

This tray system simplifies organization and maximizes the functionality of your Harbor Freight Modular Rolling Toolbox for various use cases.

Updates

  • Split Files: I have split the larger trays into halves. All trays can be printed on a Ender3 (220x220x250). The split trays require you to glue them together, but the edges are beveled to assist with lining up the edges. All the split trays have "Split_Half" in their filename.
