Beechcraft Baron Magneto and momentary Starter Switch

This is a Beechcraft B58 Baron magneto switch with momentary start position.

IT IS NOT ELECTRICALLY CAPABALE OF HANDLING LARGE CURRENTS. THE CONNECTORS AND FITTINGS OF THIS PART DO NOT IN ANY WAY REPLICATE THE ORIGINAL AIRCRAFT PART.

Needed is a 5-way, two level rotary switch. It is necessary to get exactly the one as pictured, since the lower bracket becomes part of the spring mechanism. Two springs are needed in the size of approx. 5mm wide and 8-12 mm long.

First, two opposing detents between positions 4 and 5 have to be removed. I used a small cutting disk on my dremel for this, the smaller the better. The detent next to the end stop can be sacrificed for better access. Be careful to leave the end stops in place.

Before you rebuild the switch, solder leads to the switch.

Print the spring mechanism parts with 100% infill. I used PETG, but PLA is also OK.

Now remove the second switch level. Replace it with the bottm "stop" part. Then attach the two springs to the bracket that was removed from the switch mechanism. Slide the bracket over the middle axis only, and attach it to the screw posts with the springs. Tension it enough to clear the protrusion with the spring on the outside.

Now slide on the "arm" disc, making sure that the protrusion is opposite of the protrusion of the "stop" part. Make sure the spring runs around the outside. Then fit the cover cap and refit the nuts and washers.

A double stop model is included for a twin configuration (50mm mounting hole spacing). This will also prevent the switch from rotating in use.

The knob can be printed with standard infill settings. If it is too snug, try to reduce the inner dimensions in your slicer.
