Dart Holder for Zuru XSHOT Insanity and other foam dart guns with a Picatinny Rail

What's better than a gun that launches foam darts? LOTS of foam darts! But how can you store them all close to the gun? Enter my dart holder. Store an extra 15 darts right on the gun! Specifically designed for use with the Zuru XSHOT Insanity HorrorFire line, I don't see why it wouldn't work with other toys that also use a picatinny rail and darts that are of the same/similar diameter.

The inner diameter of the storage tubes is 13mm. This seemed to work well with our darts. You may want to adjust slightly for yours - it took a lot of test prints to come to that size, despite measuring the darts with a pair of calipers. I've included the FreeCAD document so you can do just that, not to mention, change other sizing parameters as well. See the list of parameters below. Just be sure to use FreeCAD 1.0.0 or later, then look at the VarSet object and look at all of the parameters you can change if you want.

The aiming sight is towards the bottom of the see-through hole, this is because that's where my kid wanted it. This, as well, can be changed via the VarSet.SiteHeightOffset parameter.

I sliced it with 15% Lines infill, and printed it flat on the plate, and it works like a charm, though YMMV.

Available Parameters to tweak within VarSet:

LabelDefault ValuePurpose
Chamfer Size0.5mmHow thick to make the chamfer on the dart holes (to assist in auto-aligning when inserting a dart).
Clearance0.3mmAmount of clearance to allow between the rail attachment and the official specs of a picatinny rail.
Core Height50mmHow long the inner circular part should be.
Core ID19.2mmThe inner diameter of the inner circular part.
Core OD22mmThe outer diameter of the inner circular part.
Dart Diameter13mmThe diameter of the holes to bore out for the darts.
Dart Wall Thickness1.5mmHow thick the walls of the dart holes should be. This probably needs to be thicker than you think.
Sight Depth5mmHow long (tall? thick?) the sight piece should be.
Site Height Offset5mmHow high up from the flat edge of the inner circular part should the aiming sight be. Yes I realize the inconsistency in spelling of Site and Sight. No, I don't know - or care - which is actually correct in this context.
Turret Bottom Thickness2mmHow thick the backstop of the dart holes should be.
Turret Height60mmHow tall, including the Turret Bottom Thickness, the holes for the darts should be.
Turret See Through6mmDiameter of the holes in the Turret Bottoms to both allow you to see the presence of the darts more easily ... and to allow air to escape when inserting the darts.
