1985 Voltron (by Panosh) Wing and Wing Mount

I've printed quite a few designs from here, so figured id contribute. This is my first upload.

I own the original 1985 plastic 14" tall Voltron. My son started playing with it several years ago and broke the wing clip / wing mount but the wing was fine. We recently got a 3d printer and I decided to try and see if I could print the part needed. Unfortunately I could not find any applicable 3D files online. So I decided to try and reconstruct the wing mount myself.

As I said the wing was originally functional and intact. To reuse the existing wing, I had to make the clip with a cut out so the existing wing could snap in place, and it worked. But as things would have it, the wing eventually broke due to an over anxious youth...lol. So I then had to redesign the wing also. The wing is not perfect but its very close. Keep in mind all of this was done in TinkerCad - so limited capabilities.

The wing is the same left or right. I have included two clips. One with a cut out, in the event the original wing is still intact and one without so that it looks more like the original wing mount.

I used a picture frame hanging nail for the metal pin to replicate the original wing design and just clipped the ends with a pair of side cutters. The nail is a tight fit so the wing stays in the desired position. The hole diameters of the parts are 1.2mm - so use something that's very close to the 1.0-1.2mm diameter range. This diameter was used to stay as consistent with the original as possible.

Print the wing on its long edge. Print the clips/mounts on their side - this is so the press fit area doesn't snap off with the layer lines. You may want to elevate the mounts off the print bed before slicing and use supports - this is to avoid a bit of a flat spot on the round middle part that may happen when printed/sliced directly on the print bed. I used 85% infill and a brim when printing all parts.

When installing, the wing mount is a very tight fit and may require you to really press and wiggle it into the hole in the back of the black lion. Before pressing it into place, I took a pair of pliers and squeezed the sides together a few times to kind of soften them up a little and make them more flexible. But once installed it does snap into place quite well.

If you need to take the black lion apart it uses 4 screws. A screw in the neck, one behind each shoulder and one just beneath the tail. The back lifts straight off.
