Tie New Year’s Eve with LED shooting star
I made a tie with print in place hinges. This is the New Year’s Eve edition.
I split it in 2, as I have a Prusa MK3S. On that printer it’s a tight fit for the bottom part. Especially because the tip tends to warp, so I needed to add a cylinder. I use a piece of filament to join the two halves.
Your first layer has to be spot on. You print this with the visible side down, as the bottom of the cut out shape is only 1 layer in thickness. Let the plate cool down before peeling it off.
This one (opposed to the Christmas version) requires some work after printing. I bought some led filament of Temu (link) (couldn’t find it anywhere else). Luckily it contains 4 strips. I use 2 filaments per tie and I needed 2 ties. 300 mm is the longest I could find.
You also need a CR2032 battery socket for each. When you combine two or more to one battery, it doesn’t shine as brightly. And it needs to shine through one layer of filament.
It turned out to be a nice (first) soldering project with the kids. Hoping this is the first of many.
First I made a design that held the LED filament in place, but it took a long time to get it in and soldering would be difficult. So I just us normal tape. A glue gun should work as well.
You hang it around you neck with a piece of elastic band.
