This is my radio controlled Guido the forklift from the movie Cars. It has working forks. It uses 3 N20 gear motors. Two for driving the wheels and one for raising and lowering the forks. The wheel motors are 6V 30 RPM but 60 RPM motors could be used if you think it's too slow. The slower motors make it more controllable. I used the 6V 200 RPM version of the motor for lifting the forks. The remote I used is an HS06A-KCL. I got it from AlieExpress. It comes with a matching receiver and can control 3 motors. It is designed to drive small motors not hobby servos. This version of the remote has tank control sticks. There is another version with a different stick layout.
The forks are raised and lowered by a lead screw in the body of Guido. The lead screw moves a block attached to a string for each side . The strings run through the tubes that attach the forks to the main body raise and lower the forks. The strings are routed by a couple of pulleys and brass eyelets or grommets to the slides the forks are attached to. I didn't want the motors to stall at the end of the forks travel, so I implemented a slip clutch in the design. The mechanism can be hard to assemble so I've made some alignment tools to make it easier.
I've also included a couple of accessories for him to play with. A wheel , sign and pallet.
hardware needed:
brass grommets 3/16" see the video
4 pieces brass rod 3mm X 15mm
O-rings for the wheels HF kit 217 P30 , OD 36.7 , ID 29.7 , SEC 3.5
springs from HF kit
String. I used the sting from one of those badge reels but dental floss or any string that doesn't stretch easily should work.
3mm screws of various lengths
I use a kit of screws from Amazon called "iexcell 125 Pcs M3 x 8/10/12/16/20 Stainless Steel 304 Hex Socket Button Head Cap Screws Bolts Assortment Kit"
ball bearing for tail wheel 9.525mm 3/8 inch
RC control HS06A-KGL from AlieExpress
N20 gearmotors
30 rpm or 60 rpm for drive wheels
200 rpm for lift motor
3 AA battery holder
magnets 6MM diameter by 3MM thick
