Summary

Ever wish you had a set of very real feeling coins for your favorite board game? Sometimes cardboard cutouts just don't cut it. This plan has a cavity in the center of each coin for either a real penny (ones and fives) or a real nickle (20s and 50s) to be inserted, mid print. This gives each coin a heavy and legit feel, improves game play, and really wows the guest players!

If you prefer to slice your own, follow these steps for the best results:</p><ol><li><p>Incorporating a Pause for Coin Insertion:</p><ul><li>Make sure to add a pause in the print at the top of the side walls. This pause allows you to insert the real coins into the print.</li></ul></li><li><p>Pause for Color Change:</p><ul><li>I’ve also included a pause for a color change when printing the number and upper ring.</li></ul></li><li><p>Variable Layer Thickness:</p><ul><li>I used a variable layer thickness. 0.2mm works well for most of the print, but 0.1mm works best for the final layers.</li><li>Note: 0.2mm also bridges much better over the metal coins.</li></ul></li><li><p>Ironing for Smooth Finish:</p><ul><li>To achieve a smooth, glossy finish, I turned on the ironing feature.</li></ul></li><li>Customizing for Other Coin Denominations:<ul><li>The design can be easily modified for different coin denominations.</li></ul></li></ol><hr><p>Tips for Better Adhesion of Coins:</p><ol><li><p>Prepare the Coins:</p><ul><li>Clean the coins before insertion to remove oils and contaminants.</li></ul></li><li><p>Optional Bed Glue:</p><ul><li>Apply a thin layer of print bed glue on the top surface of each coin for extra adhesion.</li></ul></li><li><p>Preheat the Coins:</p><ul><li>Clean and glue the coins before printing. Place them on the edge of the print bed after printing starts to bring them to the correct temperature.</li></ul></li><li>Coin Cover Layer:<ul><li>(See the “Coin Cover Layer” photo above.) For better bridging results, set your print to "2 perimeter layers". This ensures that each bridging pass begins and ends on plastic instead of the metal coin.</li></ul></li></ol><hr><p>Happy Printing!</p></div>
