1983 XJ900 Seca Brake Piston Holder
Note: I made this for rebuilding the calipers on my '83 XJ900 Seca, but it should work on any bike that has pistons with a 37mm inside diameter.
So, you're rebuilding your brake calipers...and what's the hardest part? Usually, it's trying to get the pistons out. There are different techniques...compressed air, grease guns... But maybe you don't have one of those, or maybe your pistons are just really stuck, or maybe you already split the caliper body and those techniques won't work anymore?
That's where this tool comes it. You insert the tool inside the piston, then tighten a couple of 3/8" bolts into it. This spreads the tool like a set of brake shoes and clamps on to the inside of the piston. Then you can clamp the bolts into a vice, grab hold of the caliper body and rotate/lift the caliper off the piston.
Important: You will need to print TWO of them to make it work. The larger chamfer goes to the inside of the piston. The holes are tapered wider at the top so that as you tighten a bolt into them it will try to push the two halves apart. There are no threads, the bolts should cut their own.
Print with high infill...I think I used 90% and 7 walls. You want it nearly solid to be able to transfer all the force.
Good luck!
