0-4-0 Industrial Tank Engine

A little project I modeled over spring break! It's an extremely small (271 mm) tank engine using almost entirely 3D printed parts! You just need to supply 15~19 suitable screws & some glue! It is unpowered though, as I don't have any motors to model around.

|| Printing instuctions ||

Minimum bed size: 91.67mm wide, 207.17mm long, 135.00mm tall

Maximum bridge: 30-22mm

Most parts aren't oriented correctly, so use your own judgement to bed these. If not, your slicer's “auto-bed” feature usually does the job

A lot of the smaller parts will need a brim, so keep that in mind!

Most parts are support free, but some do need supports! Basically just the tanks & cab roof though, otherwise the bridges are negligible.

(Inside the cab roof, there are two rails that need support. The tanks on both versions need supports under the water fillers, & the separated tanks need support under the boiler struts)

|| Building instructions ||

Most parts slot together in the obvious place, but some parts are a little more confusing…

Couplers - These are based on Kadee's, & they are compatible, (I've tested this part) but everything else is different. The head slots onto the coupler gear, then the assembly goes either into the forward coupler box, or into the slot in the rear of the chassis. Be careful when putting the head onto the gear, as everything is asymmetrical! The rear coupler is held down by the cab, while the forward coupler is held in by the forward smokebox screw.

(The forward coupler can be swapped out for a real Kadee, but I'm 99% sure it's too low for an 833)

Boiler & Tanks - If you used the separated variant, there are screw-holes in the bottom of the tanks, which should align with holes in the boiler.

Boiler & Cab - There are four screw-holes inside the cab, which will connect to the back of the tanks. It might be a bit tricky to get the screws in, but I believe in you!

Boiler fittings - These all slot into the appropriate spots, just add a spot of glue

Smokebox & Boiler - First, glue a weight of some kind (A handful of old batteries will do) on the inside of the smokebox door, then glue the door onto the boiler. I'd use a slower drying glue so you have time to straighten the door out!

Wheels & Axles - The wheels must be quartered on the axles to ensure smooth operation! (One side's wheels are offset 90º from the other side)

Rods & pistons - The slide bars clip into the pistons, but I'd recommend glue. All the rods should screw onto the wheels & each other, but this is untested.

Pistons, Pilot & Chassis - All of these just slot onto the chassis, & I'd add a drop of glue.

Cab, Boiler, & Chassis - Once you get the cab & boiler together, (See above), there are five screw-holes under the chassis to mount them to the chassis. Four under the ashpan, one in the smokebox.
