Boxilies – Game Instructions
Goal of the Game:
To own the majority of the "stones" on the game board at the end of the game. This is determined by how many rotating figures are pointing towards your opponent.
Game Materials:
- A Boxilies game board
- 5 "stones" for each player. Each stone has a rotating figure and a number of arrows (1 to 5), the arrangement of which on the stone is arbitrary.
Setup:
- Each player receives 5 "stones".
- Players decide who starts.
- Place the Boxilies game board in the center.
Gameplay:
- Start Turn: The active player chooses one of their remaining "stones".
- Set Figure (before placing): The active player turns the rotating figure on the chosen stone so that it points towards the opponent.
- Place Stone: The player places the chosen "stone" (with its figure now pointing towards the opponent) on any empty space on the game board. The orientation of the arrows on the stone itself does not matter when placing it.
- Capturing:
After a stone is placed, compare the number of arrows on the sides of the newly placed stone with the number of arrows on the adjacent sides of the opponent's stones (horizontally and vertically).
If the number of arrows on one side of the newly placed stone is higher than the number of arrows on the adjacent side of an opponent's stone, the opponent's stone is "captured".
To indicate that an opponent's stone has been captured, the active player turns the rotating figure on the captured stone so that it points towards the opponent. The stones remain on the game board. - End Turn: After the player has placed a stone and made all possible captures, it is the opponent's turn.
End of the Game:
The game ends once all spaces on the Boxilies game board are occupied with stones. Players then count how many stones have their rotating figure pointing towards the opponent. The player with the larger number of such stones on the game board wins the game.
