Modulo Krinkle Monotile
In May 2025, Miki Imura announced the discovery of a new monotile pattern, the Modulo Krinkle Monotile. This single shape can completely cover a surface without gaps, or overlaps. Original publication can be found here: https://arxiv.org/pdf/2506.07638
The Modulo Krinkle Monotile is composed of two angles: 3π/7 and 4π/7 radians (and their explementary partners). The sides are length L and the ends are length 2L.
This monotile is not aperiodic because a 180° rotation around the center of the tiling will perfectly match the original. Colors don't count with regard to matching, only shape matters. Three colors are sufficient to tile a 2D surface without any two adjacent tiles having the same color.
The Modulo Krinkle Monotile box holds approximately 120 monotiles. The lid is secured to the box via six 8 x 1mm magnets.
