Fit Finder for Dados

I needed to make a series of 4” dados, which is too large for MicroJig Dado Stop (https://a.co/d/00DXHBh) (which my model is designed after). Bridge City Tools makes a Kerfmaker that will do 4” (https://bridgecitytools.com/products/km-2v2-kerfmaker-pro), but the measurement point must start at a stop at the end of your miter gauge, which doesn’t work if your stock is longer than your miter gauge (i.e. no stop available in the open air). The dado stop concept uses a measurement point starting at the device attached to your fence so who cares if your stock floats beyond your miter gauge (which was the case for me).

Hardware needed are M6 nuts (2) and bolts (2). There are tons of knobs on Thingiverse; I used ThereAlone’s (www.thingiverse.com/thing:3067525).

You need a dovetail clamp with this model. If you don’t have and would like to try to redesign for a different clamp set up or use different screw sizes, I’ve attached the Fusion 360 file. I also did a version that could smaller dados (1/8” to 3”).

If you only need to do small dados and already own a dovetail clamp, the MicroJig dado stop is a great deal at $25 (For that price I wouldn’t go through this design effort if I didn’t need to make 4” dados). MicroJig has a good instructional video on its use.
