Prismatic LiFePo4 Tap and Drill
Prismatic LiFePo4 Tap and Drill jig for cells without terminal connectors.
Easily drill (6-7mm) into the blank terminal with the alignment jig and tap.
The relieve in the side for the aluminium shavings sometimes gets clogged, but easily blown clean.
I printed it upside down with supports.
Description
- I used a generic helicoil M6 kit [AliExpress] and managed to not kill any cells (did 17). I bought two packs of helicoils thinking I might waste a few, didn't waste a single one its actually really easy if you take it slow.
- Since having two kits, I took one drill bit and one tap, and cut them flush so I could really get the most out of the small space available.
- If you see or hit a bit of copper coming out of one terminal, this is okay, you have reached the maximum depth, I couldn't recommend going deeper as it might cause a thermal weak point.
- I cut one winding of the helicoil off, as it kept sitting just proud otherwise, requiring a little file down.
- I used a small flat screwdriver to break the helicoil tab by bending it side to side and fishing it out with tweezers.
- Using WD-40 really makes the tapping easier, but you would then need to clean it out with contact cleaner or isopropyl alcohol before inserting the helicoil.
