Dungeon Degenerates plus Expansions Storage
I love Dungeon Degenerates but the biggest issue I have with the game is setting it up and putting it away. This gets worse and worse as you add more and more expansions. I finally decided it was time to create a comprehensive storage solution for the game and all of the expansions I owned. The goal is to make to make it easier to set up, with removable trays for most things, as well as an improved ability to "save" the game for the next session if you need to pack it up.
IMPORTANT
This insert requires the Piece Keeper box. If you don't have that, this will not work. Also, some parts in this required a large print bed. Some of these could be sliced and printed in parts but the character trays would be very difficult to put back together and use if split. You may want to consider a printer service for these parts if you bed is too small.
Characters
The first step to this was designing character trays that can hold the character for each player with all of their components in a tray that can be put away to "save" their current stats. Thankfully drfunk had already created an excellent character overlay so all I had to do was make a tray that could hold a remixed version of that plus the additional components like cards and tokens. To use the character trays, just insert the character dashboard into the tray, then lay the overlay on top. Put the tracker cubes in their correct locations and place the tokens in their top slots. A stand base can also fit in the circular slot below the tokens and between sessions you can place the standee on the character board. The height of the tray is designs so that these can even be stored vertically and keep the tracker cubes in the correct positions.
You will need to print the cubes from drfunks original design here.
For standees, just organize them into the standee tray however you want. The boards for characters then all fit in the character board tray with space for all of the smaller rule books (but NOT the lore books).
Cards
The card tray design is made so that you can print a bottom and top with the top slotting into the bottom to create a full "case". The top can be removed during gameplay to use as a discard. Then, for saving the game, simply put the discard cards face up on the other stack and when setting up the next game, move those back to the discard side of the tray. The Doom/Danger/Triumph cards all get their own small tray that has a back that can be used for a standing discard to save on table space. Finally the skill card tray has dividers built in so you can sort your growing number of cards in whatever way you want to make it easier to find them. I do them alphabetically. Be sure the print the number of each tray shown on the models. I also printed each in a color matching the card for added flair.
Tokens and Dice
All tokens have trays to hold them and keep things separated. I did make space for certain tokens to be in coin capsules (you can see which ones in my images). The non encapsulated tokens should also fit, but will have extra space. I added trays for two sets of dice, in case you supply your own extras, like I do. You can also store additional sets next to the character standees if you want (or in the extra tokens corner box).
Future and what is not covered
The following components and expansions are not currently covered. Some MAY fit but as I don't have them (yet) I cannot say.
- Lore books (there is no room for these. Store them in a different small box).
- Goblin Mode
- Moon Madness
- Dirty Deeds
- Miniatures
I plan to add storage for the three newer expansions once I have them from the latest Kickstarter. I will not be making storage for the miniatures. The lore books may or may not have dedicated space depending on what solution I need for the new small box expansions. Stay tuned if you are interested in those.
As for saving the game, the one major thing not covered is the board. The way I do this currently is to take a picture before putting it away, if I can't just stash it somewhere else. This is unfortunate, but there really isn't much else that can be done with this aspect of the game. If you have a better idea for this, certainly let me know.
