Charging adapter for Stoots Easylock 18 battery
Introduction
I recently bought a Nitecore battery charger which I like a lot and I wanted to be able to charge my Misti 3 Stoots headlamp battery without buying a specific charger.
Stoots 3rd generation of headlamps use a specific form factor for their battery (called "Easylock"), preventing from using a common charger.
So I decided to build an adapter...
The most difficult step was to find the correct parameters to have the support printed thread matching the easylock battery thread.
WARNING:
To build this adapter, you need minimal electrical skills. Short circuits with Ni-Mh batteries can result in severe injuries.

Building:
Parts to print:
- the charging adapter support
- the two AA ends (positive and negative)
Additional parts:
- 2 electric wires (15cm / 6") each (use 2 different colors)
- 1 brass parisian attachment (for the positive end)
- 1 brass washer (for the negative end)
Assembly:
- Insert the parisiant attachment to the printed positive end and then lock it by foldind one of the two legs. Then solder one copper wire to the second leg
- Make the copper wire go out through the first lateral hole of the AA size tube and then insert the positive end in the support (bottom side). Glue it
- Solder the 2nd copper wire to the brass washer, make the wire go through the negative end and then glue the washer onto the negative end
- Make the copper wire go out through the second lateral hole of the AA size tube and then insert the negative end in the support (top side). Glue it
- Remove 20mm/1" of plastic insulator at the end of each wire
- Insert the copper wire coming from positive end to one of the holes at the center of the support base and then make it go out through the 2nd hole at the center
- Insert the copper wire coming from negative end to one of the holes at the periphery of the support base and then make it go out through the 2nd hole at the periphery
WARNING : be sure positive and negative non-insulated copper wires will never enter in contact!!! This would result in a short circuit (when screwing on easylock battery) and possibly serious injury. Be careful!!!
Testing:
Screw on the Easylock 18 battery on the adapter and use a multimeter to check :
- contacts
- polarity
