Fully Articulated Linear Accelerator (LINAC)

This is a model I made in 2023 during my brief stint in Radiotherapy engineering. It's loosely based on Varian's style of Linear Accelerators.

I'm now releasing this completely free for public use worldwide... exactly as I originally intended.
I DO NOT give permission for this model to be sold under any circumstances.

The model features:

  • Gantry rotation (180 degrees in both directions)
  • Thumb wheel to move Gantry
  • Arms can be extended out and Imaging panels moved up/down
  • Treatment head rotation
  • Turntable rotation (90 degrees in both directions)
  • Couch height adjustment via a working scissor lift
  • Couch longitude and latitude movements
  • Couch top Pitch & Roll
  • Alternative 'cutaway' version of the gantry so you can see the waveguide and bend magnet housing

  • Instruction Manual included!

Built entirely with TinkerCad

(Note: The 'patient' shown in the photographs was not made by me, you can find this model here: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2887306)

You will need some tools and fixings to build this model:

  • Multiple M4/M5 30mm long panhead nylon screws (cut down to size)
  • Multiple M4 nylon nuts
  • M4/M5 thread tap
  • Flathead/Phillips Screwdriver
  • Pliers/Grips or Spanner for M4 nuts
  • Super Glue
  • 4mm Rod (can be plastic or metal, will need to be cut into 35mm lengths x4)
  • M4 nyloc nut (x1) (For attaching Gantry to Stand)
  • 50mm countersink machine screw (x1) (For attaching Gantry to Stand)

I recommend using supports for everything and use 20% infill so that the model is not too heavy. Printing the Gantry at any more than 20% will make it difficult to move.
All nylon nuts should be glued in place after tightening to avoid them becoming loose.
