Melanobatrachus indica (Galaxy Frog)
The galaxy frog measures up to 4cm from booper to pooper, and is native to the evergreen forests of southern India. And according to the Zoological Society of London_, its habitat is threatened by unethical wildlife photography tourism trampling the leaf litter the species lives and hides in.
So instead of tramping through the delicate ecosystem to get the perfect shot, why not print your own?
In one iteration, I used
- light blue PLA
- added dots of masking material (Vallejo liquid mask) on the belly and limbs
- painted the body dark blue (pigments+dishwasher-safe Mod Podge)
- painted the eyes black (enamels for miniatures)
- removed the masking material and lightly sanded the warty nubs to expose the light blue PLA
- painted orange blotches to parts of the belly, the groin, and armpits ((pigments+dishwasher-safe Mod Podge))
In another iteration, I used Polymaker Galaxy in blue, not sponsored) and tried to dry-brush the warty little nubs with a light blue paint. I used red nail polish for the patches on the armpits and groin, but according to my reference photos it should be more of a pumpkin orange (c'est la vie).
