Complete r36s Game Console Grip Remix By nathan93 and Piinu
These two makers are way beyond me in CAD skills, but I don't know why Piinu didn't combine his top piece with nathan93's original r36s grip file so they can be printed in one go. That's what I set about to do. Unfortunately, both the models weren't perfectly symmetrical and didn't line up to each other perfectly either. What I did was chop each model in half then mirror it and stuck them together with some other tweaks to smooth it out. I was amazed at how easy it was to print (although I did use a chunky brim, I was quite worried as the centre of gravity was quite far forward and high. It came out great, although I needed to do a little cleanup scraping at the top (the bottom as I printed it). It actually holds my r36s really nicely without any rubber or anything glued in, although I suspect if I shook it around while it was upside down it would slide out easily. i actually want to be able to remove it easily though as I keep it in a case.
I printed using esun PLA+ with supports touching build-plate, 8mm brim and 15% infill with 3 shells with a 0.44mm line width and 0.2mm layer height and it came out great. I slowed it down to just 40mm/s max and it took about 7 hours. I'm sure it could be printed faster, but I didn't want to lose build-plate adhesion half-way through! I need not have worried as even after it had completely cooled it was pretty hard to remove! 0.12mm layer height would have even better smoothness/quality in the hand, but take even longer to print! Maybe I'll sand it smooth one day, I did that with my printed PSP grip and it feels lovely in the hand now.
