Crumple Zone Attachment for Vernier Go Direct Sensor Cart
Challenge your students to create an effective and efficient crumple zone for the Vernier Go Direct Sensor Cart! Print this base plate to attach student-made crumple zones to the Cart. Two versions are available: one that is press-fit onto the rubber bumper that comes with the Sensor Cart and one that mounts directly to the Sensor Cart's force sensor.
If using the direct mount version, you'll need a 6-32 machine screw (about 1" in length), matching nut, and a nylon lock washer (like the one that comes with Sensor Cart hook).
Both versions were designed with the expectation that students build their crumple zones with drinking straws and tape; the edges of the base plate are slightly concave to fit a straw nicely. Of course, other materials could be used.
Physics teacher and Vernier Trendsetter Eric Robinson does this crumple zone challenge with his students. Read about in the Vernier Science Education blog: https://www.vernier.com/blog/an-egg-drop-alternative-a-force-to-reckon-with/
