Watering Can

One morning I woke up with a simple thought: I needed a watering can for my plants.

Recently, I have become interested in growing microgreens and taking care of different types of plants at home. In my next publications, I will show more specific examples of how this watering can can be used, but for now, I would like to introduce the model itself.

I spent some time at my computer, and this design was the result. In my opinion, it turned out to be successful not only from a practical point of view but also visually. I wanted to create something that would be not only functional but also attractive.

The main feature of this watering can is the very thin and precise stream of water coming from the spout. But the most important thing is that, thanks to the shape of the spout, water drops do not run back along it after watering, as often happens with regular watering cans.

The model is available in two versions: with a larger and a smaller spout opening. Both versions are included in the 3MF file. If you have a larger printer, you can also scale the model to fit your needs.

For my purposes, a capacity of about 500 ml is more than enough. This compact size makes it convenient for indoor plants and microgreens.

The model prints completely without supports. However, I recommend using a small layer height. The smaller the layer height, the better the final watertightness of the model will be. It is better to wait a little longer during printing than to spend time afterwards treating the inner walls with dichloromethane.

The best results can be achieved when printing with matte filament. Due to its structure, this type of material fills microscopic gaps between layers more effectively, making the final product more reliable and watertight. I have used this type of filament many times in projects where water resistance was required, and the results have always been excellent — no leaks at all.

You can download the 3MF file with my print settings, or if you have your own preferences for printing parameters, simply download the STL file and configure it according to your needs.

I also paid special attention to the handle design. Despite its unusual and somewhat unconventional appearance, the ergonomics turned out to be very successful. The watering can sits comfortably in the hand, is easy to hold, and is convenient for everyday use.

I created this model quite some time ago, and many of my friends who saw my work have already printed their own versions. According to their feedback, they also liked it and found it very practical.
