Knife Holder
I have always loved good kitchen knives — especially knives that are truly sharp and enjoyable to use every day. Previously, I used a beautiful acacia wood magnetic knife holder, and it worked perfectly. However, after moving to a new place, I faced a simple problem: there was no convenient place to mount it.
So I decided to design my own countertop knife holder. I wanted something more than just a place to store knives — I wanted a practical and convenient solution that would always be within reach. After using it for several months, I can say that I am really happy with how it performs, and I decided to share the model with you.





The first thing to consider with any countertop knife holder is stability. The knives are held quite firmly in the spring grid on top, and when pulling out some knives, the force can transfer to the entire structure. That is why I designed several possible ways to keep the holder stable.
The simplest option is to use the inside space as additional weight. For example, you can fill the body with rice. Rice works very well for this purpose: it adds weight, distributes the load, and at the same time has hygroscopic properties.
Personally, I used another method — I attached several acrylic double-sided adhesive pads to the bottom. They hold the holder securely on the surface while still allowing it to be removed if needed.
Of course, there are other possible solutions as well. I am sure many of you will come up with your own convenient way to secure it.
The model includes two versions of the top spring grid: a denser, stiffer version and a softer version. For my knives, I used the stiffer one. Keep in mind that over time, plastic can slightly shrink, which may increase the spacing between the spring elements.
The top grid is removable. This makes it easy to clean the inside or print a new grid if you want to change the configuration or replace a damaged part.
Naturally, knives should be thoroughly washed and dried before placing them into the holder. Do not insert dirty or wet knives, even though the design allows easy maintenance later.
For printing, I used PLA Wood in two wood-like shades: a light tone and mahogany. I also used the Fuzzy Skin setting because the model is quite large, and normal layer lines would be very noticeable. This effect not only hides the layer texture but also gives the surface an interesting finish that resembles real wood.

STL files are available for download. If you are new to 3D printing, you can use the ready-made 3MF file with pre-configured print settings.
Choose the grid depending on your knives:
- for thin knives, use the denser and stiffer grid;
- for thicker knives, you can try the softer version.
