3D Chameleon MK4 – Improved version

I tested the 3D Chameleon multicolor system on my Neptune 3 Pro for several months, and at the beginning it didn’t work very well. I found several design issues and I redesigned all the parts to create a reliable and fully functional MMU system.

For those who don’t know, 3D Chameleon is a DIY multicolor system that can be installed on any 3D printer. The system does not communicate directly with the printer. The idea is that the printer presses a switch at a precise moment, and that timing signal tells the system to change the filament.

J’ai testé pendant plusieurs mois le système multicolore 3D Chameleon sur ma Neptune 3 Pro, et au début, ça ne fonctionnait pas très bien. J’ai trouvé plusieurs problèmes de conception et j’ai redesigné toutes les pièces pour obtenir un système MMU fiable et fonctionnel.

Pour ceux qui ne connaissent pas, 3D Chameleon est un système multicolore DIY qui s’installe sur n’importe quelle imprimante 3D. Le système ne communique pas directement avec l’imprimante. Le principe est que l’imprimante vient appuyer sur un switch avec un timing précis, et c’est ce signal qui donne la commande au système pour changer de filament.

The steps to follow are:

  • Build the 3D Chameleon using the instruction PDF.
  • Build the electronics to control the 3D Chameleon using the instruction PDF.
  • Test the 3D Chameleon to make sure everything is working properly.
  • Installing the 3D Chameleon on your 3D printer
  • Configuring your printer and slicer so that everything works properly.
