Outdoor extended garbage cleaners (for pond and/or roof)
MAINTENANCE of the home and/or garden is a recurring burden for many. Professional help is always possible, but is expensive and sometimes not immediately available. So you would often solve the problems yourself first (if possible). Particularly tailored tools can be a solution and that's where I started working.
In practice: Sometimes there is rubbish in the pond and you can hardly reach it. Then you don't want to get wet when removing. A gripper could then be a solution, provided that it can be operated at a sufficient distance!
Roofs are also getting dirty. Then flooding is lurking, because gutters clog and dormers become full of leaves and other rubbish. Usually you can hardly reach it and then you have to go on the roof to do something about it. However, I prefer not to risk my life for that and besides, I am afraid of heights! A leaf pusher with a container, which can bridge enough distance, could neatly sweep the rubbish together and then tip everything over the edge.
The auxiliary tool is now ready. Not electric, but just manual work and it works well in practice.
The current design consists of 4 basic parts:
a. A work tool with a choice of a dirt grabber or a leaf pusher/tipping bucket (mini shovel).
b. A coupling piece consisting of 3 parts:
- A claw/peg to attach the tool to the handle.
- An optional knee joint to set an optimal working position.
- An adapter to convert the square neck claw to threads for the connection to the stem.
c. A telescopic handle with conical screw connection (length approx. 2 meters).
d. A pulling mechanism to control the tool remotely.
When choosing a usable handle, my choice fell on the Sencys Telescopic Aluminum Handle with a maximum practical length of 2 meters, but there are also similar other brands that are very useful! This sencys is strong, light and cheap and has a tapered thread as a coupling, which we also find in various other brands. The remote control is then done with a brake cable, as used on bicycles to operate the rear brake (cable length approx. 2m25 - outer sleeve length 1m75) and which is guided along the stem with clamps.
Bicycle cables are fairly universal and available separately almost everywhere. The design has been adjusted in such a way that the assembly is almost the same as on a bicycle. Finally, there is a simple pull mechanism, which is easily attached to the end of the handle with 3 cable ties. It is recommended to clamp double-sided tape between the handle and the cable puller, so that things stay in place and will not shift or twist around the handle.
