Levanger Station Norway H0 Model Kit
Levanger is a midsize town on the Trondheimfjord in Mid Norway. Visitors to Norway will usually pass by the town on the E6 main road on their way to the far North and will not be aware that there is a true architectural gem located here: the Levanger railway station.
Levanger station was built in 1902 when the railway line along the Trondheimfjord was constructed. Most small station buildings in Norway are wooden constructions, wood was and still is a very popular building material throughout Scandinavia. But Levanger station is a brick and stone building. The reason may be that Levanger experienced a major fire that destroyed a good part of the town just a few years before the railway construction, and that may have been a motivation to use brick and stone for the (then) new station building.
The station was designed in the Art Nouveau architectural style by the prolific Norwegian architect Paul Due who designed quite a number of Norwegian station buildings. The building is richly decorated, with bands and patterns of bright red brick in many different shapes running around the beige/yellow building. Two towers on the front side make for a castle-like look. The building has seen very little change over the years and is well maintained, with a pristine look even today, unlike so many other station buildings.
I instantly liked this building and the style and created this model as a tribute to the building and the architect. The intriguing brick patterns are quite complex, and the model has become a complex model for that reason. But I tried to replicate the appearance as closely as possible, hence the complexity.
The model is in H0 model railway scale (1:87) and has close to 590 parts that need to be assembled. The brick decoration patterns are made out of 240 parts alone. It is a complex and very detailed model that needs careful assembly. It is not beginner friendly and not meant to be. Some experience in model assembly is helpful, as well as patience and calm hands (both of which I lack). I designed it using Tinkercad and have printed my copies on a Bambu Lab X1C printer using PLA filament. The joints and part fittings are designed with tolerances of 0,2mm, which should give a good fit – not too tight, not too loose. You may have to cut and file some edges after print.
