Spray Bottle

Because of my new hobby, a spray bottle has become something I use practically every day — morning and evening. And by now, I've tried quite a few of them.

Some don't spray the way I want, some are uncomfortable to hold, and others seem determined to tip over at the slightest touch. I had a pretty nice tall aluminum bottle, for example. Everything about it was fine except for one thing: look at it the wrong way, and it was already lying on its side.

Eventually, I got tired of that and decided to design my own version — exactly the way I wanted it to be.

What you see here is actually the second iteration of the model. I used the first version for a while, figured out what I wanted to improve, and redesigned it. The second version turned out noticeably better, and that's the one I'm sharing with you.

Why I Needed It in the First Place

This Spray Bottle is connected to another project I'm currently developing and testing —GreenFarm. It's a fairly large project built around a compact system for growing microgreens at home.

During the dark germination phase, the seeds need to be moistened in the morning and evening, so this spray bottle gets used constantly. That everyday use has also turned out to be a pretty good real-world test for the model.

And consider this a small preview of GreenFarm — I'll be sharing much more about that project separately.

Ergonomics and Stability

I didn't design this shape just to make the bottle look unusual. It's shaped for a comfortable, natural grip, making it easy to pick up, use, and put back down.

But one of the features I especially like is its stability.

Most of the water sits in the wide lower section, which keeps the center of gravity low. The broad base adds even more stability. The result is something of a Weeble — it's much harder to accidentally knock over than a typical tall spray bottle.

In the video, I specifically demonstrate just how stable it is.

The bottle holds approximately 350 ml. For me, that turned out to be a good balance: enough water for everyday use without making the bottle unnecessarily large or heavy.

The Sprayer

The spray mechanism itself is a standard off-the-shelf part that you can buy separately. You'll find a link to the one I used below in the project description.

Before settling on this one, I tried quite a few alternatives. I bought empty spray bottles, took apart bottles from household products, and experimented with different mechanisms.

Almost all of them eventually disappeared into oblivion. Well, I did salvage a few springs first — a good spring should never go to waste.

What I particularly like about this sprayer is the quality of the mist. It produces a fine, even spray, which works especially well for moistening seeds.

Printing

The model prints without supports.

I printed mine in PLA, and it has worked very well for this application.

I recommend using a small layer height. Besides giving you a cleaner surface finish, it also helps produce denser walls and better watertightness.

I've already printed this design several times — I think the current one is number four. Not because any of them leaked: someone liked one and said, “Give it to me,” another one disappeared into someone else's hands, then I needed another one... Apparently, they reproduce faster than I expected.

And so far, not a single one I've printed has leaked.

If you're an experienced 3D printing user, you can download the STL file and choose your own material, print parameters, wall count, and other settings.

If you're new to 3D printing, I recommend downloading the 3MF file . It already contains my print settings. You can use them as they are, take a look at how everything is configured, or adjust them to suit your printer and material.

In the End

It's a very simple everyday object, but these are exactly the kinds of things I enjoy designing. You take something you use all the time, find the little details that annoy you, and make your own version — the way you think it should work.

What I ended up with is a stable 350 ml spray bottle with a comfortable grip, a low center of gravity, and a standard replaceable spray mechanism.

I use it every day, so this model has definitely moved beyond testing on a CAD screen.
