A Transformers-themed, arduino controlled, split-flap weather station made for our Mechatronics course at DTU.

Instructions

For this project you will need:

Arduino uno
Stepper motor x 2
Wifi-module (ESP8266) - ATTENTION: ONLY USE 3.3 V FOR THIS COMPONENT
Various resistors and wires (Please check out our arduino code and each components data sheet, to see how to hook up the parts correctly)
Photo resistor x 2 (used for calibrating the position of the flaps) - careful these are very sensitive to short-circuits!
3mm acrylic sheets x3
Hooks for hanging the weather station on a wall (optional)
Paper/cardboard sheets for the split flaps (other materials can be used as well, but keep in mind the weight will add up!)

We used double-sided tape to secure the motor, arduino, breadboards and photo resistors to the acrylic-housing.

A different engraving can be made on the front side. To do this, simply draw the engraving in any illustration software, save as a pdf, set up the laser cutter for engraving on the selected color and go!

The arduino receives data from an api on wunderground.com. We've used an hourly forecast API from Copenhagen Denmark. For other locations you need to change this location. For more information on this, visist Wunderground.
