Summary

This is a 6x5 mechanical display. The pixels are on 26mm pitches in both directions. It is designed to be driven by a jacquard-style punch card reader (such as three of these: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:101077), although it can be adapted to any mechanical control system desired. Instructions

The rows are designed to be bolted to a frame that is 225mm wide, and the rows are spaced 26mm apart vertically. Everything is to be assembled with suitable M3 nuts and bolts. This was all printed on an original Replicator 2, typically with 2 shells, 0.25mm layer height and 25% infill.

Print out 5 row brackets.
Print out 30 pixels.
Print out 30 ratchet arms.
Print out 2 row aligners.
Acquire 12 x 3mm brass rods to serve as row-wise axles for the pixels and ratchet arms.
Print out one 'pixel knife array'.
Assemble display and bolt to suitable frame.
Insert M3 nuts and 8mm M3 bolts into the end of each ratchet arm.
Attach control strings to each lever and attach them to a suitable control device, such that they are lifted out of the way of the knife array to control the toggling of the pixels as desired.
Attach the pixel knife array to a suitable source of reciprocating linear motion, with an approximate travel of 50mm, such that it pulls the ratchet arms backwards and rotates the pixels 90 degrees in the event that the ratchet arms have not been lifted slightly by their control strings.
When transitioning between frames, pre-compute which pixels need to toggle to transition from one state to another, and control the ratchet arms as desired.
