Toddler Resistant Deadbolt Door Lock

Does your 2-year-old like to let himself out to do his business in the front yard? Mine does, so I came up with this. It replaces the inside portion of your deadbolt and has a removable "key" that fits a couple 1/4" cylinder magnets on the back so that it can be relocated out of the reach of your little Houdini.

This plate fits two different types of KwikSet deadbolts I have at the house, but YMMV. The file labeled "...with shroud" has a little plastic extension that covers one type of deadbolt that had a longer key-shaft. I've included all the sketchup files to make editing easier.

The key hole bore is sized 0.6mm over and fits fairly snug with my printer/slicer combo. It's an easy edit in sketchup if you need to make changes.

The easiest way to install the magnets is by reaming the holes with a 1/4" drill bit, add a drop of superglue and then push the magnets in against a hard, flat surface.

P.S. I labeled mine "Ikey Proof" (text added in sketchup 5mm font, 1.5mm height) which I'm now regretting since this will obviously be perceived as a challenge by my little guy- just waiting for the day when I come down to see a tower made out of bar stools and legos so he can reach the key.
