Earth Sea Relief Globe

Here is a traditional earth relief globe. It displays the sea surface, unlike thing:86681, Earth Relief Globe, which shows the sea bed. A small 3.5 inch globe, it is meant to be quickly and easily printed.

It was created with the program "globe" by DJ Moews, available under the GNU GENERAL PUBLIC LICENSE. Globe can be downloaded from http://djm.cc/dmoews.html.

The input file used with globe was gmted2010. Gmted2010 was created by DJ Moews from the USGS GMTED2010 data set and is available at http://djm.cc/dmoews.html. See the README associated with the data file for details.

Input to globe was: --map altitude data/gmted2010 5400 2700 sbigendiandibyte --gridpoints 256 --map-scale 120 >earth_sea_relief.stl. Earth_sea_relief.stl was centered and scaled by 0.0000075 to yield a globe about 3.5 inches in diameter.

Two stl files are available:

earth_sea_relief.stl and
earth_sea_relief_plus_base.stl - the same globe with a base added at the south pole

The openSCAD program used to add the base is relief_plus_base.scad.
