Summary

This is a mold to make chocolate shark fins to go on top of cookies.

My wife wanted make some shark fin cookies, round cookies with a chocolate shark fin sticking up, for an upcoming party. This mold will let her do that easily.

This was inspired by Macouno's Desk Shark.

Instructions

print one of the following:

print both halves of the mold at the same time using file:
fin_mold_150725_both.stl
(X = 100 mm, Y = 60 mm, Z = 25 mm)

--- OR ---

print the left and right halves separately:
fin_mold_150722_left.stl
fin_mold_150722_right.stl
(X = 60 mm, Y = 45 mm, Z = 25 mm)

Prepare the mold:
The inside of the mold must be non-porous and shiny otherwise the chocolate will stick to the mold.
Apply acetone to the inside cavity of the mold using a small brush.
let the acetone dry.
repeat another time or two to obtain a shiny molding surface.

Before using the mold:

make sure the acetone has completely evaporated
wash the mold thoroughly

Use the mold:

My wife sprayed the inside of the mold with Baker's Joy cooking spray to help release the chocolate when cooled
my wife may have painted the inside of the mold with chocolate before assembling the halves.
Assemble the mold with a rubber band as shown in file: p150726b_mold_assy.JPG
(the outside of the mold is black because I was too lazy to flush all the black plastic out of the extruder before printing with white plastic)
pour the melted chocolate into the mold
let cool in refrigerator for 15 to 30 minutes until chocolate is solid
Wife said she popped off one side of the mold using a table knife wedged into the key slot on the side of the mold
pull chocolate off other half of mold.
