The idea for the SPOX came from a project some of my peers did for one of their engineering class projects. They built a small scale wind turbine. But the one big problem is that it was too small to actually work outside. Then I was watching the news a few weeks after they finished the project and I saw that tornadoes were blowing whole buildings away and that's where I got the idea for the SPOX. When I saw that I knew how to make a wind spire more efficient. I knew of the invelox before but I never thought of combining them before now, The way the SPOX works is the air comes in through the top and is bend and sent into the housing where it forms a vortex. In theory this should make the SPOX more efficient than a traditional wind spire or an invelox. The SPOX as posted here is only a 1:20 scale model because I wanted to have it be 3D printable. I do have to give a big shout out to Electronix Plus 1's hub over at 3D hubs for printing this out for me at a great price and with great accuracy and quality. I think that 3D printing technology is so cool and I want to win this contest so that I can bring more of my ideas such as the SPOX to life. Thank you for viewing, I hope you liked it.
