Summary

The HC-SR04 is a great little ultrasonic sensor that is really cheap, and easy to use in projects.

This case is designed to be used with cable ties so the sensor can easily to mounted to sticks and other objects.

Instructions

This is a pretty simple design in 3 parts. The parts only take about 15 minutes each to print.

The front face needs to be glued to the middle section - I like using Araldite 5 minute glue as it works well with ABS. I made the front face separate so I could print it at a higher resolution to the middle and back sections. I also find it easier/faster printing simpler parts that glue together rather than trying to print one big complex part.

The case design requires that right angle male header pins are used on the HC-SR04, facing forwards. For a cable I like using 4-core telephone wire with a 4-way female header pin which fits nicely into the slot on the underside of the case.

The sensor should fit snugly onto the back plate without the need for screws to hold it in place. You can use just the back plate on it's own to hold the sensor so print this part first.

In case you're wondering, the project I'm using these sensors on outside is a system to detect my neighbors cat, that likes to spray the door of my house. I set up 2 sensors up either side of the door, connected to an arduino, and a water solenoid value to turn my sprinkler system on when triggered.
